Vigilante (SMS->Amiga)
A downloadable Amiga game
This is my attempt to port Vigilante from Sega Master System to Amiga.
Why Vigilante and why Master System?
First of all Amiga already has a (poor) Vigilante arcade port, but I prefer the Master System version because it's more colorful and has more personality, more NEESO style.
What have been done so far?
- Game works at 50fps to remove the choppiness seen on the Master System.
- Improved the impacts effect, it's still Vigilante but feels more Double Dragon :)
- All the stages and cutscenes are present, so it's tecnically possible to reach the end by beating all levels (up to you if you want to see it)
- The player is complete, needs some rework in regards of the flying kick and flying nunchuck attacks.
- All the enemies but the guy on the motorbike.
- Game flow is complete, including game over when running out of lives. Level timer works, Highscore works and is persistent.
- All sprites have been recolored and improved over the original ones.
- Levels 1,2 and 3 have been graphically improved.
- The title screen and ending images have been improved.
- Intro and all levels have different tunes, based on the original but reworked and improved by JMD.
- Brand new sound effects.
What is missing?
- Player jump attacks (flying kick and flying nunchuck) need a better implementation.
- Spawning enemies logic needs a better implementation.
- The guy on the motorbike needs implementation.
- All bosses are still missing their implementation.
- Level4 and 5 need to be graphically improved.
- Music for the intermission and ending cutscenes are missing.
- Some sound effects (losing nunchuck, player death..) are missing.
What are the controls?
- Joystick: Movement. When chocked, quickly press Left/Right/Left/Right to free up.
- Button 1: Punch (keep pressed for combo)/Nunchuck/Skip Typewriter during cutscenes
- Button 2: Kick
- "C" on Keyboard: Toggle camera shake On/Off (default is On)
System requirements?
- Emulators of sort.
- 2 Buttons joystick.
- Any Amiga with 2MB of RAM (Chip+Fast). Should work with less but I cannot be sure.
- Suggested setup: vanilla Amiga 1200 or above.
- If you have an accelerator card of any kind you will have the best experience.
Credits
- Art, Programming, SoundFx: NEESO
- Music: JMD
- Made with: Scorpion Engine by Earok
So far the game took me almost 3 months of full time work, but spreaded in the evenings after my regular job since February. The game is mildly optimized but will be further improved in the next releases.
Enjoy this EARLY DEMO and please, give (constructive) feedback! :)
/** 13/10/2024 - DEMO 2 UPDATE */
- Optimized enemy spawning logic and removed redundant code
- Made all actors move a little bit faster
- Partially reskinned level 4 and 5
- Fixed an highscore update issue
- Fixed a level 5 reload issue when using continue

Awesome! Demo v0.3!
Hey Saberman, I am amazed every time by how fast you can produce videos of Amiga games, I barely had the time to read the email that ZZAP! was out and you already made the video out of the cover disk, this is insane :D :D Thanks as usual!
Also, I noticed you managed to get to the end without many issues so I assume the new enemy balancing is more comfortable to play, right? It should feel easier because then you will have to face the boss fights which are going to be tough as well.
Yes, the game is now well balanced. It is much more enjoyable to play and nerveless. With the added bosses it will already be a fun challenge!
Awesome, glad to hear!
Nice conversion, although quite difficult and frustrating if you want to shake off the enemies while the energy bar is rapidly emptying. Our German-language review can be found in our recorded livestream starting at 03:05:53. English subtitles are also available. Subscription to our YouTube and Twitch channel is welcome. 🙂
Thanks for your review! The game is still in development and in future versions the enemies will be balanced better, stay tuned!
It's going to be a great game. I also included it in my new "Gameplay of New Amiga Games from October 2024" video along with other Amiga games released in October.
Thank you so much!
Great job so far!
Many thanks! 🙏
The game is getting better but also more difficult!
Maybe because I got used to it while developing, but in the last update each level has a bit of increasing difficulty as well. I will do some play tests later to balance it better. Also the bosses are missing and one should arrive with enough energy to be able to beat them. Anyway, thanks again for the new video!
Very cool game, thank you.
Thanks a lot!
A great game promises to be played. Already very fun to play!
Thanks mate!
Looking forward to this
The sceenshots looks great, good work.
Thanks a lot! Soon I will publish a playable demo so it's also testable by others
Notification says released, link destination says coming soon? That's not fair.
I hope you make it better than the original! o7
I guess that's the default itch notification when I add a new project, despite being really released or not hehehe
+1 yeah
